Swine influenza a concern for summer camp

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) - Parents who send their children to summer camps are the concerns of swine influenza this season.

Some meetings were canceled camp. Children with flu symptoms have been quarantined or sent home and some camps are pre young people before accepting them.

Lori Kenzie in Roswell, Georgia, is 10 years old, daughter of Girl Scout camp every year.

"We went to a camp this summer and is not part of the billing procedure, including any projections for health purposes, if you have fever or head lice," said Kenzie.

But this year was different.

"This time that all the children when temperatures in the mark, and interviewed family members to see if someone has been ill in recent months. Rampa really a selection process, which I found reassuring "Kenzie said.

Dr. Jeffrey Boscamp, president of the Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, said that the fear or swine influenza type A (H1N1) influenza, has changed the activities of summer camp this year.

"Some of the special fields of graphite [are] for children with various diseases, for example, children with muscular dystrophy," said Boscamp. "There are a number of camps and whether these children have the flu, are in very high risk of severe lung disease, so that these camps were canceled."

But it is difficult to tell whether a child has a common cold or flu swine.

"We know that there are still a lot of activity in swine influenza. ... We know it's there. Obviously, not all campers who have a fever flu. And there are some difficulties to solve," Boscamp said.

Fielding requests and medical center of the camp and parents on what to do.

"The message we have delivered so far we have seen no evidence that influenza is a virulent one. So far the cases have been mild. So we can not recommend that people undergoing treatment are not at high risk for complications," said the pediatric specialist.

World Health Organization declared the global swine influenza virus pandemic June 11. Over 70 countries have reported cases. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta reports more than 27,000 cases in the U.S..

Boscamp recommends that parents before sending their children away, ask if the camp is first choice and children have fallen by some campers in the summer flu. Advise parents to pack a little more hand sanitizer in their children's backpacks
